A guest on Colston Hall, Bristol on Tue, 11 Dec 1979
My first of many damned gigs.
Dave charging from one side of the stage to the other. Captain dressed in his finest cricket gear. And an amazing drum solo from Rat, so much fun.
Saw the damned tour coach in Bristol earlier in day with cap and algy dishing out rude gestures from the back seat, how rudeA guest on Red Cow, London on Thu, 21 Oct 1976
This was my 1st Punk gig. I was 16. And still at School. A fellow pupil, told me about this gig. I heard of Punk. (in the music papers) But didn't really know what it sounded like.
So me and my mates. Went to the Red Cow. It was quite local. And I'd already seen AC/DC there. earlier in the year. We were typical Rockers. (long Greasy hair, wearing army great coats) When we entered the Lions den! lol.
We had never seen anything like it before. People in cut up shirts and jackets. Sporting chains through the ears and nose.
When The Damned started playing it was mayhem! My mates hated it.
But I loved the chaos. They left. I stayed.
It certainly was a 'Lightbulb moment' for me.
The next time I saw them. Was in 77. At The Roundhouse. With Motorhead and The Adverts as support. Another brilliant gig.
But the 1st one. Was something special.
Bill Gaynor.A guest on The Great Hall, Lancaster University, Lancaster on Sun, 25 Oct 1987
It was less than an hour long, apparently they had been ripped off by the university and took it out on the bar. My only recollection of the set was Stranger on the Town, hadn`t even realised they hadn`t played New Rose and by the end i was absolutely soaked in sweat and beer with soap running in my eyes from my now flat hair. Came up from Fleetwood and stopped at the training college with a friends friend and some mates from my college. Was a memorable night and they played brilliant , much better band than the Stranglers at that time.
A guest on Gaskins Plus One, Middlesbrough on Tue, 17 Nov 1981
I was there…!!! Brilliant night!!! The anti nowhere league where supporting the dammed and really played it up, fighting with the crowd on stage and animal being a proper animal!!! I remember the bouncers using fire extinguishers to break up fighting, just blasted the protagonists and then using the extinguishers as clubs!! Also saw one once with a wooden cosh in his waistband. Mad times…. ????

A guest on ZENITH PARIS - LA VILLETTE, Paris on Tue, 18 Nov 2014
Hi, just wanted to let you know a few words about The Damned gig last night in Paris Zenith (Fr) I had a f****** great time ! really :) i was more than happy to see and hear these guys again :) my last Damned gig in Paris was in 1992, i went to a few Damned gigs in the 90's, and my very first gig was them, in 1987 , it was at la locomotive in Paris (Fr), i was 15 and was a huge Damned lover ^^..like today (i'm42 :). . Yesterday , at le zenith, it was awesome and huge !!! good sound, the guys were in good shape and I found Dave Vanian very close to the audience. I dont remember if he was like that in the past..maybe .. I remember a moment, when i saw The Damned at L'elysée Montmartre in the 90's, he gave me a glass of wine :) i was in the front it was very kind from him. About last evening, i came to see them and i wasn't disappointed at all ! what I really hope now, is they will come back more often in France. :)
You Rock guys !
ps: sorry about my broken english..

A guest on Motion, Bristol on Wed, 05 Nov 2014
Great gig, still a fantastic live band after all these years.
Don't suppose anyone got a decent pic of Dave wearing Captain's beret at the end? My photo didn't come out too well.

A guest 100% on De Montfort Hall, Leicester on Mon, 28 Nov 1977
Awesome gig. The Dead Boys as support. The band and the audience were exchanging spit and beer. It was like being in a riot in the mosh pit. The local paper the next day carried the headline 'PUNK ROCK SHOCKER: DEMAND FOR INQUIRY'. You can't buy publicity like that.
