I did security for him that show, I was center stage, in front of the crowd. He sat on the edge of the stage during the encore, and was 2 feet away from me. Met him briefly after the show. My ears rang for days and wished I had earplugs, but was worth it. I wish I could find some photos of that show.
Directly across center front row balcony!

SRV was great but I was really taken by the opening act, Johnny Copeland. Copeland was on fire!
He looked kind of green and I thought he was pretty drunk. He jammed. Didn’t move much. Bass player smiled and made eye contact with me at one point. He is a nice guy. Glad I saw them.

I was there. Albert Collins was like a brooding black cat with his guitar slung. SRV was awesome doing his Hendrix stuff that night. The beer concession served beer in large tub sized containers. Clouds of smoke. SRV and Albert Collins jamming together. Big fat guy stage dived and flattened a small crowd. A riot!
I was there I worked my way up to the front to see the band it’s open standing. I was blown away. A night I will never forget!!! I remember a guy was high or drunk punching people in the face in the crowd. It was upsetting to see woman getting hit . The Chicago police grabbed him and shamed his face in a pole and out the door he went. I’m glad I saw SRV. He was outstanding

Stevie arrived on a helicopter after the opening act Stray Cats.. It was quite an entry. It was open seating, me and my buddy sat dead center about twenty feet from the stage. Stevie played like he was at MSG. The greatest was on his game that night, was the most memorable rock experience of my life.

To add to my previous review. In Robert’s defense , I’ve seen him other times , and he was great . But The promoter that night underestimated Stevie . “In step “. Came out a week after that show .lol He was clean and on fire. He did most of “in step “. ,magical. Closed with voodoo chid and it rained again Lightning in the distance. ( it rained at a lot of Jimi’s outdoor shows) lol. So the problem wasn’t the wine . Robert should have had Stevie out for the last few tunes , like Joe Cocker did there, a year later . And there wouldn’t have been a mass pile of chairs at the end lol and pissed people!! Lol
This show was unreal ,, Stevie came out , opened with “ house is rockin “ and kicked ass the whole set. Played couldn’t stand the weather , and it began to rain , big drops ! He was on fire .! After Stevie , Robert Cray came out , and had a nightmare . Robert’s guitar was out of tune , then he broke a string . Then it got worse . I don’t know who the genius was that thought he could follow Stevie ,,,? But it was a mistake. Stevie blew him so far off the stage , it wasn’t even funny . Then when Robert didn’t bring Stevie back out at the end of the show , the crowd was pissed. Threw chairs into a pile in the middle of the floor . Crazy. Last concert they let you bring a bottle of wine to your seat lol. I play guitar for a living , Stevie blew me away . !!! During Stevie’s set , everyone was on there feet , Robert was the opposite. And I like Robert . But he looked literally green that night , lol . John Hiatt opened the show with an acoustic set . Very cool . Had a song that was about his dislike of people bashing guitars . Lol. Ironically after his set , he Tripped over a cord and his acoustic guitar did s faceplant on the stage lol . I was in the 11th row , center Amazing show .
