Mayall was the first live band I had seen. I was just 16. The crowd were calling for King John. Loved it. I remember not wanting to leave the venue when he had finished, strange feeling. Never looked back, saw band after band, twice a week for years. Bought most of his Lps. My favourites Bluesbreakers with Clapton and Hard Road with Peter Green. I never saw Mayall again..missed him a few times and regret that. Really upset at his passing, but thank him for introducing me to live music and one of the most memorable sets I ever saw.

Seventeen year old me, member of local band Jan Hus and a Liverpudlian. We (Jan Hus) had spent hours listening to ‘ Blues From Lauren Canyon’. To be in the presence of the master was something special . But to be honest I didn’t expect the accoustic set. Thompson was keen and Mayall was amazing. Not his greatest moment but I’m glad I was there. I think the ticket cost £1.
