On this particular day there was a big strike in France by the trucks drivers so getting to the venue by car was just a mess. However my pal and I were lucky enough to own, at that time, the promo tape of "Your Arsenal" which would be released a few days later, so we knew most of the songs that would be played that night.
Morrissey arrived very late, after Moe Tucker made her show lasting and lasting. People were waiting Mozz since the afternoon and Ned's Atomic Dustbin shouting to the crowd a "F**k Morrissey" that I still remember after all those years.
Morrissey finaly appeared and started with "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side". It was not difficult to notice that the singer was not really in the usual mood. He did not talk a lot (I know that he wasn't talking a lot at that time but this seemed different). Rumors of that day mentioned he had argued with Gary Day, but wether it was true or not, the set has gone quickly, as quick as the encore "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful". One big surprise of the show was the cover of this new band called "Suede", a great rendition of "My Insatiable One" which was one of the B-sides of the band's debut single.
As this was my first ever experience with Morrissey's concert, I however got impressed by the man, and as a fan I enjoyed the show anyway. Time proved I was right to go on following him.
