Though I'd heard that performances by this young man and his troupe were outstanding I was not prepared for just HOW outstanding. His/their interaction with the audience was superior. The stage at House of Blues allows attendees to be plastered up against it, to the delight of so many, especially when he jumped down into the audience, microphone in hand, continued with his song (Young Love) while sooooo many smart phones were trained on him. Posed with many, even while performing - outstanding.
His musicians were a talented team, almost everyone had multiple instruments in play throughout every song. The sax and trumpet players were seriously multi-dimensional, sometimes playing 2 instruments at once.
For me the highlight of the evening was the look of humility on the face of Jamie Cullum when he turned the microphone on the piano to the audience who finished the song of the moment. He liberally expressed, without using any words of his own, how humbling it was to him for an entire audience to know all the words to "All at Sea".
Of note was the range of ages in the audience, 20 Somethings (HA! pun intended) to 70 somethings. We decided this is a modern day jazz musician while trying to describe Jamie Cullum to the hotel clerk. Your thoughts?
If ever the opportunity comes around again for me to see this guy live, I'll be there - there simply is no substitute for the creativity offered an artist in a live performance vs. in the studio, and Jamie Cullum and his band personify that statement.
Bravo, come back again please.
Incredible music and performance. Great venue too. I just got a new hip ant the house of blues staff couldn't have been more accomodating--letting me move off the main floor standing to folding seats one floor up.
Unbelievable show as usual! Hopefully he will come back to Boston again soon!
