My first festival. I’d just turned 17. My dad let me go even though my mum was in hospital…. As long as I visited her before I went. The hospital was full of people from the festival who had either overdosed or were hurt from falls, fights or who knows what. It was an odd mix of music, the first day was punk and rock and then day two was laid back stuff like Fairport Convention and AWB but most people had bought the two day ticket so the hippies we’re going to be subjected to the Stranglers (who were amazing) And the punks/rockers we’re going to be subjected to groups like Fairport Convention… who I’d never even heard of at that time. It wasn’t my kind of music back then but I love it now and hearing them brings me back to lying on the grass staring at the sky and chatting with my big sis who passed away in 2007 when she was 49.
