Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles (LA), US on Fri, 12 Jul 1968
The Velvet Underground actually played the Shrine Friday and Saturday night back then. I missed Friday nights show but my friends raved about it. “They did ‘The Gift!’ “ they gushed. “They had the viola and everything!” Well, Saturday night they had a plane to catch and had to give us a short set. It was just two songs: Sister Ray and Heroin. Nobody asked for their money back! It was pure Velvet madness culminating with the explosive ending to Heroin. Quite a memorable evening to be sure!
