The Odeon in Canterbury, UK on Thu, 18 May 1978
He was supported by a rock and roll revival band called Whirlwind who were ok. I recall their singer saying at one point 'this was our last single - never f- got anywhere. It's called 'hng loose'. Then on came Matumbi with 'Brother Blackbeard on guitar' as Dennis Bovell was introduced as. The Blockheads were excellent. Full steam ahead. NWR looked like what I can only describe as 'Fagin on Speed'. Dury obviously enjoying it. Came on and offered to throw 'A Solid Gold Rolex Watch (from Camden Market)' into the audience - which he did. Bizarrely he did the same with a bunch of bananas. Of course the final encore was all 3 bands back for SADARAR. And his parting comment to us (and the band) was 'We'll come ere again'! Brilliant.
