Unfortunately, I found the concert quite disappointing. There were some great moments, though. The orchestra was superb and wherever they were given an opportunity to shine, they did. So I enjoyed the instrumental portions the most. Pirates of the Caribbean being the highlight of the show.
The singers, alas, were mostly horrible. Annett Louisan was fantastic, but she was only given one song to sing. Chima was worst, forgetting some lines of his lyrics, followed closely by the pair from the Aladdin musical. Mr Kelly's voice was ok, but he seemed oddly out of place, as if he really didn't want to be there.
It didn't help that all but two of the songs were sung in German. This was no doubt for the benefit of the children, but the songs simply don't sound as good as the original versions and I'm pretty sure the childen wouldn't have minded. This is more of a personal opinion, though. Then again, singing "It's A Small World" entirely in German makes absolutely no sense at all (the sing-along lyrics on the screen didn't work properly, either). Sven Gätjen was a surprisingly charming host, but wasn't able to save the whole affair. All in all "could have been better". Great orchestra, but maybe try and get better singers (even if that means fewer of them) next time and don't insist on doing everything in German.
