Andrew Bird is awaesome...so awesome that he is best experienced solo, or possibly with one supporting musician. He doesn't need a whole band and a whole backdrop of amps and loud base/feedback.
I loved Andrew and the Fiona Apple cameo, but the sound wasn't all that great during his set...muffled and too much base in his vocals.
The best part was the encore when everyone came out and sang/played acoustically.
Maybe I've been spoiled by seeing him in small venues like Largo, but the Ace should have been great as well...I think they amped it up too much.
Andrew is a genius and should be allowed to shine without all of the lights and extra acoustic bass.
Ace Hotel Theater is gorgeous, however, despite little to no leg room in the balcony.
