Last night's performance at The Ryman in Nashville with Conor Oberst and Dawes took me to another planet. This was my first time seeing Dawes, and they quickly became musicians on my list of Heaven-sent. Conor never fails to expose me to musicians that I've been really missing out on. This collaboration could not be more perfect. The Ryman is my favorite venue. Maybe because I'm from Memphis or because I believe Johnny Cash is always watching over me, or maybe because of the church pews and divine energy which vibrates throughout this historical landmark. Whatever the case may be, the bottom line is: this was an unforgettable event within an unforgettable venue. The only thing that always disappoints me is how stiff and bratty 90% of the concert goers are 99.9% of the times I've seen any performance anywhere with Conor Oberst. It has confused me since November 6, 2007 in Memphis, TN at the Gibson Guitar Lounge. This was my first time to see Bright Eyes, Maria Taylor, and The Felice Brothers. It would take me a few more pages to write about that beautiful show from beginning to end, so we will save that story for another time.
My wish is that fans of Conor Oberst's music would start to treat each other with respect and love because we are all one big family and there isn't any reason to put your dukes up, especially when you're attending something so sacred. I wish that if you are going to treat everyone like this is YOUR concert made JUST FOR YOU and NOBODY ELSE, well I wish you the best and I hope that you'll get to experience how much more incredible to see Conor Oberst and all the other incredible musicians he brings along when you open your heart and loosen up your butthole a little.
Five stars!!!
