Stevie Ray Vaughan concert review

I just watched the documentary on the Gorge Amphitheater and was thinking about this show. Did a search since I couldn't remember what year it happened. I was surprised to see 1989!
My review is much the same. I was parked front row just left of center. John Hiatt opened with a solo set. Ive been a fan of his since a local DJ I'd known sent me a cassette copy of Overcoats in the very early 80's. I'd seen him several times before and since, with bands and solo. He's such a clever songwriter and his set was great. I don't recall him tripping on his cord but I sure hope it wasn't his trusty Gibson LG-2 that took the fall. The song the first reviewer mentions would have been "Perfectly Good Guitar". I can't recall it but that that song hadn't been released at that point.
Next SRV & Double Trouble took the stage. He was on fire to say the least! It clouded up and a storm ripped thru the Gorge in more than 1 way! The best show I'd ever seen him put on! I remember thinking I wouldn't want to in Robert Cray's shoes, having to follow THAT! For sure I was seeing the reason he is revered as a master blues guitarist. I'll never forget it! When they left the stage as if in the set list, the rain stopped and the clouds cleared.
The Robert Cray band closed the show. It would have been smart to put the RCB in SRV's spot and let him close the show. But Robert was at his peak and deserving of the spot. They were in Oregon the night before and if that show was even close a stage manager might have got the clue to put SRV on last. I'd seen Cray several times in bars in Seattle, usually at the fabulous Rainbow, on his way up and his records up to and including Strong Persuader are fantastic. I don't recall there being issues with equipment or breaking a string but after that SRV storm I'm not surprised. As he ended he flicked his pick out to the crowd. I whipped a flashlight out of my back pack and came home with a souvenir I still have! Somewhere I'm betting I still have the ticket stub too.
I still see John Hiatt and he's one of my favorite all time acts. He's a great cat too! I haven't seen RC since the 90's but SRV & DT's set will always be a highlight of the best shows I'd ever seen! Oh and I get why this was that last show they let you take wine to your seats!!
