The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge, UK on Sun, 02 May 1982
What I remember most about this gig was the floor bouncing when crass were on and the fantastic scenery on our way into Hebden Bridge, also the great hospitality of the organisers I think who gave some of our party that couldn't get home. DIRT were a typical anarcho band of the era with a girl vocalist but they were ok. Annie Anxiety always interesting and thought provoking performance art really. It was the first time in 2 years since I'd seen Crass in Bradford and was really anticipating seeing them, they did not disappoint with their piledriver sound raging against all that was messed up with the world back then which was a lot, us cold war kids had plenty to rail against. 41 years later they're probably needed more than ever.
Memorial Hall & Theatre in Barry, UK on Fri, 13 Jun 1980
Amazing experience,
totally wired
one of the defining ones of my life.
The music was just an indescribable wail of white noise, riffing and screaming.
I was only a kid and had never seen anything like it before. My previous concert was probably Priest or Sabbath and I remember thinking 'who are these people, and what world do they live on?'
Their clothes were simply black rags hanging off them, like plague victims might have been> incredible to see because it was so obviously a life choice and not a costume for these crazyheads.
The Memo wasn't that full, so I wandered right down the front to see Vi Subversa up close, bloody hell, she was terrifying but wonderful.
I was too in awe to even go near to the stage for Crass.
I know Muck was there because I remember seeing him do his mental wardance, but I don't remember anyone else, sorry.
Damn wish I had got into photography a few years earlier now.
Anyone else there?
